Good morning from your most recent auction horses! I'm not sure if we have introduced them officially yet, so meet them:
First up is baby Gretchen! Named because she will hopefully be a weaning partner for baby Regina, this little girl was non-weight bearing lame with massive swelling on her left hind leg when we met her. She is on stall rest, antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, and getting hydrotherapy daily. We see some improvement in the swelling but it's still a struggle. She is a smart, calm filly with some sass so we are hoping that leg improves.
Second up is the big liver chestnut senior guy. We've named him Rufus, Rufio for fun. He's just the kindest mellow guy you'll ever see. It's obvious he needs a dental, but for now is chilling in our quarantine, eating senior feed and attempting to eat alfalfa.
The red roan and the dun both came with their previous names on their Coggins. The roan is named "Ollie" (we're adding Oliver as his official name) and is cautious but should come around. The dun mare is named "Dusty" and is easy to handle. She had milk, and someone commented she just weaned a foal last week and should not be bred, though we'll likely have our vets confirm. She's had a ton of interest already!
This is the calmest bunch we've ever had from auction. We quarantine auction horses for a minimum of 21 days without symptoms of illness (runny nose, cough, swollen glands) and that includes minimal handling to try to protect the rest of the herd, so this is their job for another two weeks: stay healthy, eat food, and relax.
We can't wait to see what their futures bring!
