Randy Andren made the 5-hour drive from West Fargo, ND to Scotland, SD to pick up his Showdown horse this week… and went home with Lucy.
We’re especially excited about this pairing. This is Lucy’s final year of eligibility for the Dakota Showdown, and she’s worked hard to earn this chance at continued training—and the right home. When Lucy arrived in 2023, she was anxious, unsure, and heavily dependent on other horses for confidence. Instead of pushing her forward, we gave her time to settle into a steady herd and rebuild trust at her own pace.
That approach changed everything. Today, Lucy is thoughtful, responsive, and grounded, with a solid foundation and a quiet willingness to keep trying. She did participate in the 2024 Foundation Division, but like many horses, her journey didn’t end there. Lucy can still have moments where she seeks a little extra reassurance and clarity, especially in new situations. That’s where the right partner matters—and why we’re excited about this match.

Over the next four months, Lucy and Randy will train together as part of the Dakota Showdown Horse Trainer Challenge. Lucy will be available for adoption at the Finale on August 23, 2026 in Lennox, SD.
