Meet Twister: A Smart, Gentle Mustang Ready for His Next Chapter
3-year-old BLM Mustang Gelding | Antelope Valley HMA - approximately 14.2 hh
In just 13 weeks, this once-untouched mustang has transformed into a calm, curious, and willing partner. Twister joined the 2025 Dakota Showdown Horse Trainer Challenge having never worn a halter—and now he's trailer loading, navigating obstacles, and even been sat on with a bareback pad. His trainer, Beth Stahlecker, says he’s one of the smartest and gentlest mustangs she’s worked with—and he’s ready for someone to continue his journey.
Halter broke and easy to catch
Trailer loads confidently
Saddled and sat on calmly
Walks across tarps, "sends" over obstacles, gates, etc.
Ponies and leads with light pressure
Responds to backing, lateral flexion, and basic groundwork cues
Fly spray tolerant and has had all 4 feet picked up
Good for gear and new experiences
Mild moments of "baby brain" (occasional anxious walkabout, never dangerous)
Building lunge skills and exploring new places
More obstacles, desensitizing, and trick training
Possibly a light ride in the round pen before the Showdown
Beth believes Twister will be very easy to start under saddle but recommends letting him mature physically for a bit longer before asking too much. He’s kind, quiet, and incredibly teachable—an ideal young mustang for someone who wants to build a lifelong bond.
