Merrilee and Maysilee have made some big strides over the last couple of weeks.
Both girls are now allowing themselves to be caught in large open areas (while wearing halters - next milestone - halters not required!) and are learning to lead with confidence—a huge milestone for two donkeys who are still building trust with people.
Last night was another first for Maysilee. She calmly walked into the barn, watched another horse's farrier appointment, and then stood for all four feet to be trimmed without sedation! She also modeled her new fly boots before heading back to pasture.
Merrilee led over to the barn like a pro as well. Since her feet looked great, the farrier decided she could wait until next month, giving her another few weeks to keep building confidence for a non-sedated trim.
Progress isn't always measured in ribbons. Sometimes it's measured in a halter going on without worry, a quiet walk to the barn, or four feet trimmed without fear. We couldn't be prouder of these two girls.
