Update: Meet, Sid!

Well… we have a bit of an update, and it’s one of those moments where rescue keeps us humble.

Yesterday, we shared that we believed this sweet older horse was a mare named Alice, based on how the horse was sold through the auction and a message from someone who recognized her. It felt like one of those rare and meaningful moments where a horse’s name and history found its way back to them.

As we continued working through intake and reviewing paperwork more closely today, we realized something didn’t quite add up. The horse was sold in the ring as a mare, and even our receipt reflects that, so we had no reason to question it at the time. However, the veterinary paperwork lists this horse as a gelding… and after taking a closer look, we can confirm that is correct.

So while we truly appreciate the person who reached out and shared their memories of a horse named Alice, it appears this is not the same horse.

This is one of the realities of working with auction horses. Information is often limited or incorrect, and sometimes we don’t get the full picture right away. We do our best to learn who they are as quickly as we can, and sometimes that means circling back and correcting ourselves.

The good news is that regardless of name or history, this kind, gentle old soul is already making an impression here. So we’re starting fresh… meet Sid.

For now, his job is easy: eat, rest, and settle in. He’ll spend the next 20–30 days in quarantine while we give him time to decompress, so you won’t see much in the way of training or evaluation just yet. If anything pops up health-wise, we’ll extend that time to make sure he’s feeling his best before moving forward.
