It's been three days since we brought these three boys home from the Corsica auction, and we're getting to know them a little better while we work through their medical needs.
Cappuccino (Cappy) is our yearling colt with the wounds across his back and withers. So far, we're happy to report no drainage or new concerns with his wounds. We're treating his withers with a Silver Honey spray at our veterinarian's recommendation and working on earning his trust so we can collect hair for HERDA testing.
Porter is our sweet black pony gelding, estimated to be about 18 years old based on his teeth. We're very concerned about his mobility and comfort, but we're hoping a careful trim of his overgrown hooves, along with X-rays, will help us better understand his condition and whether we can improve his quality of life.
Dolce is a yearling colt (18 months) with significant limb deformities. Unfortunately, the more we observe him, the more concerned we become that there may not be a treatment option that can give him a comfortable future. We're continuing to evaluate him and will make decisions with his welfare foremost in mind.
All three boys have been started on daily pain medication while we assess their needs.
We know many of you followed their journey at the auction, and we're grateful for everyone who helped bring them home. But the work—and the expenses—don't stop when the auction ends.
We raised just $300 per horse toward their ongoing veterinary expenses and care. Between medications, diagnostics, farrier work, and daily care, we have a long way to go.
