Nelly

Born in 1989

Arabian Mare

Bug Club Horse

Nelly came to GSH as an owner surrender when her owner was unable to get her to gain weight. After a good dental, and transitioning her to a senior feed diet, Nelly not only regained her weight but is thriving! Six years later Nelly is now in her 30s and going strong.

Nelly came to GSH as an owner surrender when her owner was unable to get her to gain weight. After a good dental, and transitioning her to a senior feed diet, Nelly not only regained her weight but is thriving! Six years later Nelly is now in her 30s and going strong.

Nelly's advanced age and medical needs made her a strong candidate for Sanctuary. She worked in our children's program, The Bug Club, for a few years before deciding she'd had enough. She is still fully of sass and energy! She is on a full senior feed diet, and would live in her stall if we let her. She prefers to keep to herself with just one or two friends. Her current best friend is a mule, Buddy, who is the same age as her and has the same nutritional needs. They are always together and just enjoying life!

Nelly will remain at GSH for the rest of her life, and still occasionally gives volunteers rides. She prefers to be left mostly alone, but will tolerate a good grooming from time to time.
