Adopt a Rescue Horse in South Dakota

Gentle Spirit Horse Center places rehabilitated horses into permanent homes throughout South Dakota. Each horse receives individualized care and evaluation before being offered for adoption.
How Adoption Works
Start by reviewing the horses currently available for adoption. Click on each horse’s photo to read their full profile and learn more about their personality, training, and needs.
When you’re ready, submit an adoption application so we can learn more about your experience and what you’re looking for in a horse. Our Adoption Coordinators will review your application and work with you to get approved for a visit. They can also answer questions and help recommend horses that may be a good match.
Once approved, you can schedule a meeting at the rescue where you’ll have the opportunity to meet up to six horses you’re interested in.
If the right match is found, adopters can typically complete the adoption and take their chosen horse home the same day.
