Meet JJ!

With the focus on mares and babies this Mother's Day at auction, we can't forget the others that were there too. We are so grateful that thanks to your support we were able to help this sweet old guy too - even though he's not a flashy baby, or pregnant mare, or a newborn foal thrown into a pen.

Meet JJ.

JJ is a registered Quarter Horse, born May 19, 2001, named Watch Jack Jr. We know all this because he came with his registration papers, transfer filled out, and a Coggins drawn before the sale by the vet he probably knew his entire life, giving us his name.

His papers and personality tell the story - he's been owned by the gentleman who signed his transfers since he was 4 years old, and he'll be 25 in just 9 days. Who knows what happened or how hard it was to fill out those papers, do the bloodwork, and bring him to the auction, running through loose, just an anonymous horse in a crowd of horses for sale.

We noticed him because he was quiet, a little thin, and breathing heavy. And while we knew we were going to focus on mares, we also knew we can't stop being us and focusing on the ones who need us most. The ones who would suffer the most on a long trailer ride along the auction and slaughter pipeline.

This guy's breathing caught our eyes, but his quiet spirit caught our hearts, and he went high on our priority list, with hopes we'd have enough to bid on him and that he'd go in our budget. Thankfully, he did, and we're happy to have him here.

JJ will be in quarantine the next three weeks, and if he stays healthy, will then get his teeth checked. If all goes well, hopefully he'll find his Final Family quickly. Some younger guys hopped on him bareback in the pen, and this sweet boy just did what he was asked, neck reined, and was an all around good boy.  At 25 your time may be limited, and maybe he should just be a friendly kids or light riding horse, but we're sure there's someone out there that is looking for a JJ. Is it you?
