Now for our tiniest new friend from Saturday's auction ...
Meet Katniss—Kat for short! 
This little bay pinto filly slept through most of the auction—flat out in the sun, completely relaxed despite the chaos around her.
Despite the stress of the sale, she’s been independent, calm, and surprisingly comfortable with people, letting us handle her without hesitation. Based on her teeth, we estimate she’s under 6 weeks old, but already showing confidence beyond her size.
Kat and her mother were high on our priority list. We were looking specifically for a mare and foal pair to give Lily (from January's auction) and her new colt, Cypress, a companion. We believe foals raised with other foals grow up more balanced and social, and having a weaning buddy later on makes the transition much easier.
This month’s auction name theme was inspired by Sunrise on the Reaping, and while Katniss only makes a brief appearance in that story, her quiet presence—and connection to her mother, Astrid—made the name a meaningful fit for this little filly.
