Our success isn’t measured by how many leave… but by how well they live while they’re here!
Almost a third of the horses in our care are over 25, and many are blind, injured, or unrideable — but still full of life. If you believe every horse deserves the chance to grow old, this post is for you.
At Gentle Spirit Horses, rescue doesn’t end when a horse is too old to ride, loses vision, or needs lifelong support. Every life counts — not just the adoptable ones.
Tomorrow, all horses officially “turn” another year older
… so here’s a look at the beautiful seniors you help care for every day:
We are honored to share life with them — their wisdom, their quirks, their slow and steady joy.
And alongside them are 7 blind horses — Prince, Kiwi, Doc, Honey, Airforce, Reba, and Buddy — who navigate the world confidently with patient friends and safe environments built just for them.
Many others live happy, active lives with physical limitations that make riding unsafe — but not their will to live, love, and enjoy the sunshine.
Why Our Seniors Matter
In the rescue world, there are different philosophies.
Some programs prioritize fast turnover — bringing horses in and adopting them out quickly. Others are quick to choose euthanasia for manageable conditions that may require more care, reduce adoptability, or carry future uncertainty.
We choose a different path:
At Gentle Spirit Horses, a horse’s value is not defined by their riding ability, their adoption prospects, or the amount of time they may need. We believe in the gift of time — especially for those who have already been discarded too many times before.
Our success isn’t measured by how many leave… but by how well they live while they’re here.
As 2025 comes to a close, if you believe seniors, special-needs horses, and the “forgotten ones” deserve a safe place to grow old — your gift today provides exactly that.
Thank you for giving these incredible souls the life they deserve.
