#RehabRoundup - let's check in on the horses currently in rehab at the rescue

🏥Medical 🏥

Honey - 23-yr-old blind Standardbred Mare, on rehab for injuries sustained when she fell over a fence into a large snowdrift. She has some swelling in her hind legs and a wound on her inner leg. Stall rest and antibioics.

Benny - (forgot to video him this week) 17-yr-old TB gelding, navicular/lameness. Has been showing improvement but is still showing soreness. Continuing rest and will revisit this spring.

Cinna - 11/11 auction save, 6-yr-old Appendix QH gelding, swollen/injured leg. X-rays showed no bone or joint injury, just a large untreated wound. Had surgery on 1/3 to open the wound and remove scar tissue to encourage healing and decrease the size of the leg. Stitches are out and we should be able to remove his leg wrap this weekend.

Airforce - 18-yr-old blind gelding. In rehab for a puncture wound on shoulder he sustained during the blizzard, likely when we had to combine two paddocks due to water freezing issues. On antibiotics for 10 days and stall rest until healed.

Princess Di - 29-yr-old Shetland Pony mare. Spooked and broke out of her stall and cut her side. Is healing well and coming off rehab.

🥕 Behavior 🥕

Lucy - in pasture, calm and friendly. Much calmer when bonded friends removed from pasture and accepting attention even in a group of friends without aggression. Has been accepting the halter over her nose and not showing any aggression when her friends are removed and actively seeking attention from people. Goal: Dakota Showdown 2024 prospect.

Kody - in pasture, calming, and curious. Physical condition fully rehabbed, working on friendliness. Is being caught and brought in, and had his first (lightly sedated) meeting with the farrier.
