We're less than a week from the Dakota showdown! It will be at the Lennox SD 4-H grounds on Aug 22-23.
Today was a very good day with Padme. I caught her, brushed her in her stall and worked on some yielding. We then introduced the trailer for the very first time!
She walked right on first try like she's done it her forever and backed off perfectly, just asking politely if she could look behind her a few times.
We also messed with the platform. We couldn't get all 4 feet on but she went on it and over it without a care.
Padme has been a very difficult horse for me. She can be reactive and it seems to kind of depend on the day for how it will go. We have found that she tends to get overwhelmed easily with multiple people and she can be insecure about people being around/ touching her hindquarters especially if someone is holding her by her head.
Our goal at the showdown is currently for her to be calm in a stall and to hopefully be comfortable walking into the arena. Any obstacles or freestyle components will be a huge bonus.
With that said, she has come a looong ways and she is incredibly smart!!
