Welcome, Annie!
Meet our newest friend from yesterday's auction - Annie.
This 20-year-old Quarter Horse mare came through the auction thin, with a stiff hind end and a quiet, gentle demeanor. She was described as kid-safe, though obviously she’s in no condition for riding right now—and with her stifle issue, she may never be again.
We made the decision to keep Annie here at Gentle Spirit Horses rather than send her on to Wisconsin. The long trailer ride would have been difficult in her condition, and her movement concerns deserve a closer look. She gets tight and sore when she stands still too long, but once moving, she steps out fairly well. It could be something treatable—or it might not be. We’ll be doing a neurological exam and x-rays to better understand her condition and what the kindest future looks like.
For now, she’s started on senior feed, a vitamin supplement, and Equioxx to help with pain and inflammation. She’ll spend some time in quarantine to keep her safe, but we’re making sure she still gets plenty of love and attention.
One sweet detail? Her Coggins paperwork had a name on it—Annie—so she gets to keep a piece of her past. That’s something we rarely get at auction, and it means more than we can say.
You're safe here, Annie. We'll take it one day at a time, and see where your journey leads.
